Category: Neutron Diffraction

Neutron diffraction is similar to X-ray diffraction, positive interference causes peaks in certain crystallographic directions, this however where similarity ends. As neutrons interfere with the atoms core it is much more sensitive to lighter elements than X-ray diffraction. Furthermore this allows to differentiate between isotopes, as such certain groups or branches of molecules can be marked. On top of this neutrons are polarized and therefore interact with unpaired electrons, which give rise to magnetism.
